Well, WE MADE IT everyone! Transitioning back to school from a holiday is no easy feat for staff, students AND for families!  But whether you were ready or not to return, it was great to see everyone's face again and hear the school filled with noise, joy, laughter and life!  Wishing all of you a very blessed, healthy, and prosperous 2026!  On that note, there were several celebrations of that this week in various classes, including Mrs. Cazzola's Grade 4/5s and Mrs. Story's Grade 3/4s here below!

Preparing to Receive their Holy Sacraments this Spring!

We are so proud of our Grade 2s and 7s who have been preparing themselves to receive the Sacraments of First Holy Communion/Reconciliation and Confirmation respectively this spring.  They have been involved in activities in partnership with the church to further deepen and understand their faith, as well as exploring their faith through curriculum with their teachers about the importance of love, family, friendship and God in their lives.  Recently, our Grade 7s participated in a mass at the beautiful Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, which was led by Bishop Ustrycki followed by an interactive tour, learning all about the history revealed in the church's paintings, art and architecture.  Many parishioners commented on how respectful and reverent our students were, and our students said the experience really help to deepen their understanding! So proud of you Hurricanes!  Your faith will always serve you well in life...BE PROUD and GRATEFUL of this gift...

Here I Am...ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE!

We are so happy with the response from our young people when they saw our new gym mural as they returned from Christmas holidays!  You helped make-it-happen with all of your support through fundraising Hurricanes!  Many of the gym lines were also repainted and our next goal, is to replace the stage surface with school colours and adding our original Hurricane school logo to be CENTER STAGE!  Everything in a school helps build the positive culture, from the cleanliness of the hallways to the relationships in the classrooms!  Helping our kids feel safe and making our building look bright and proud is certainly an important part of that too!

John Howard Society Bullying Prevention Presentations

One By One (Grades 1/2): This module is designed to help children explore the difference between positive and negative choices through short stories (Which pet will I feed?), and interactive activities. It also introduces conflict resolution strategies, and how to identify when a problem becomes too big to be solved alone. All modules also focus on building self-esteem and confidence, and teaching youth to reinforce positive behavior from themselves and others.

Up 2 Me (Grades 3/4): This module focuses on teaching youth how being F.A.I.R (Friendly, Accepting, Inclusive, and Responsible) leads to higher cohesion between students and the school itself, and results in fewer conflicts between peers. It also explores how anger can affect our ability to make appropriate decisions in-the-moment. This Program teaches youth to identify anger when it starts to build, and how to express negative emotions in a positive way through developing “cool-down menus”. All modules also focus on building self-esteem and confidence, and teaching youth to reinforce positive behavior from themselves and others.

The Power Within (Grades 5/6): This module helps youth understand how in-person bullying behavior, improper use of online technologies (cyber-bullying), and retaliatory responses to bullying can result in negative interactions with the Justice system, and the consequences that may follow having a youth criminal record. Students will explore why people choose to bully others, and the types of behaviors they may encounter when being targeted by a bully (physical, verbal, social, cyber, and intimidation). The module covers multiple conflict resolution strategies, and how to be assertive and state clear boundaries to others without being aggressive. This Program also covers the topic of bystanders, and what to do when encountering someone else being targeted by a bully. All modules also focus on building self-esteem and confidence, and teaching youth to reinforce positive behavior from themselves and others.

The Wall (Grades 7/8): This module helps youth understand how in-person bullying behavior, improper use of online technologies (cyber-bullying), and retaliatory responses to bullying can result in negative interactions with the Justice system, and the consequences that may follow having a youth criminal record. Students will explore why people choose to bully others, and the types of behaviors they may encounter when being targeted by a bully (physical, verbal, social, cyber, and intimidation). The module covers multiple conflict resolution strategies, and how to be assertive and state clear boundaries to others without being aggressive. This Program also covers topics like power struggles, peer pressure, and the difference between power and influence. Students will examine their own worldviews through the use of activities such as the “Locus of Control” and “The Dark Forest”. Youth will learn about positive and negative coping mechanisms, and the importance of seeking outside help if targeted by a bully. All modules also focus on building self-esteem and confidence, and teaching youth to reinforce positive behavior from themselves and others.

Kindergarten Registrations Opens January 2026

We are excited to share that Kindergarten registration for our school opened on January 5, 2026.  Our two-year Kindergarten program allows our young learners to learn, grow, and explore through play and inquiry in a faith-based environment. These early years introduce children to our Wellington Catholic DSB family and provide a strong foundation for their future education.

  • Children who were born in 2022 may attend Year One Kindergarten

  • Children who were born in 2021 may attend Year Two Kindergarten

  • If your child is currently attending Year One (JK) in the Wellington Catholic DSB, you do not have to re-register for Year Two (SK)

How to register?

We invite families to register their child for kindergarten by completing this Online Pre-registration FORM. Once submitted, you will receive a unique registration code via email. Use the code and link provided to complete the online registration process.

Once the form is completed, families will need to schedule a meeting with school administration to meet the staff, submit required documents, and finalize your child’s admission.

Parking Reminders!  Help Keep Our Campus Safe For Our Kids!

We really need everyone's total support with this!  We know it creates an inconvenience for you, but please know our goal is to reduce the number of moving vehicles on our school campus before and after school, so young students and families can safely walk and navigate the campus.  Therefore, we are choosing SAFETY over convenience.  Moreover, we are also attempting to encourage our young people to WALK and ROLL to school, which is an essential habit and skill for life!

Therefore in summary, the front driveway loop is available for Kiss N' Ride families (Kindergarten ages) in the morning only.  The driveway is also available between the hours of 9am-3pm for students leaving the school for appointments or returning from appointments.  Visitors and volunteers are permitted to park in the staff parking lot (ex. parent volunteering on a field trip with the school).  Other than that, parking lot and driveways remain off-limits for before and afterschool arrivals and dismissals.  Thanks for your support Hurricanes!
