Hurricane 'WEEKLY' Newsletter for December 4th - 8th, 2023

Happy Saturday you A-W-E-S-O-M-E Hurricanes!

Well, Decem-BUUUUURRRRRR has arrived! The weather is shifting and excitement is building for Advent and preparing for the coming of Jesus and our Christmas Holidays indeed!

To begin, please find attached our Hurricane ‘WEEKLY’ Newsletter for Dec 4th – 8th, 2023 attached!

A reminder to all students and families, that our Outdoor Playground Structure (slide, climbing bars) is CLOSED FOR THE WINTER.  O.S.B.I.E. (Ontario School Board Insurance Exchange) makes strong recommendations to schools to make these off-limits during the winter months, because safety is decreased with slippery conditions, an increase in bulky clothing and reduced maneuverability.  So please do not use this structure before or after school.

SAVE-THE-DATE!  Plans are on their way to create a magical evening on Tuesday, June 25th to celebrate our 20th Anniversary as a school, the end of the school year and our great school community with a FAMILY FUN NIGHT!  Initial plans include student entertainment, food trucks, games and so much more.  Members of our Catholic School Council will be reaching out soon, for parent-volunteers to support our evening, as well as sponsors to help finance activities such as bouncy castles, etc.  It’s going to be a blast!

We continue to promote and teach our students Mental Wellness and Resiliency strategies through THE UMBRELLA PROJECT.  This month’s skill is G-R-A-T-I-T-U-D-E and falls perfectly in line with our preparation for Jesus at Christmas and in our lives during Advent.  Please see our newsletter for a breakdown of this important value and mindset.  First and foremost, we can’t expect to teach our young this skill if we don’t model it ourselves as adults.  Secondly, here are some TIPS how you can foster this A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E in them;

  1. Be Grateful Yourself - express your gratitude in your own life.
  2. Teach them the value of THANK YOU - meaning say it, write thank you notes or do something for others as a thank you.
  3. Have them HELP around the house - you can call them chores or responsibilities and they should not be paid for them. This teaches them they are part of the family and the jobs that need to be done and so we work together.
  4. Have them participate in purchases - have them buy things for themselves or participate in the purchase so they understand the “value of a $1” and that things are not given to you they are earned.
  5. Help Others - encourage generosity by giving of time to others. Go and serve!
  6. Travel - Different cultures teach us so much. They can grow appreciation and see and appreciate what they do have.
  7. Start a Gratitude Journal - say it over dinner or write it down to start and end your day with!

And for a very good laugh but very important reminder in all that IS good in our lives, check out this video @

We guarantee you will enjoy it and it will help remind you!

That’s it for now Hurricanes.  We are grateful for your partnership in building our school community into the great environment it is!  But remember, there are 3 mindsets to everyday; “Oh YES!”  “Oh NO,” or “Oh GOD*#@!”  We hope in every moment, you can see the “Oh YES” or SO BEAUTIFUL ones, versus the SO WHAT, because the “struggle ends - when gratitude begins” in any situation.

Take care of yourselves and each other Hurricanes!  Have a nice weekend!
