Hurricane 'WEEKLY' Newsletter for May 15th - 19th, 2023

Happy Friday you A-W-E-S-O-M-E Hurricanes!

Please find attached, our Hurricane ‘WEEKLY’ Newsletter for May 15th – 19th, 2023.

There are a ton of dates and events on our newsletter calendar, and in particular you will notice that we have listed some events in June!  That’s right, we are almost in June!  So let’s highlight a few important items;

  • Our Grade 8s are primed and ready to hit the road on Monday, May 15th for their 4-day adventure to Montreal/Quebec City! Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe trip, full of learning and good times with your classmates!
  • EQAO dates are quickly approaching for both our Grade 3 and 6 students. Both grades will be completing the assessments on digital platforms, which has a very student-friendly interface, several digital reading and writing tools at their disposal and the assessments have been shortened considerably compared to the past.  Just remember Hurricanes, take your time and do your best!
  • Hope everyone had fun in the gym with our Rock-Climbing and Ninja Course Week! Many of your showed great determination and cooperation, while many of you conquered your fears and learned to go past your worry!  Most of all, it was a fun, social and a healthy way to relieve some stress from a busy year!  Thank you Guelph Grotto for being so positive with our students and engaging them in a super-exciting week!
  • The month of May is dedicated to honouring the devotion and life of Mary, Mother of Jesus. On Tuesday, May 16th, we will be honouring Mary with a May Crowning Liturgy at 9:30am.  Hurricane families are welcome to attend.  Don’t forget, your child is invited to bring in flowers as part of the celebration on the morning of.  Vases are not required.
  • We recently welcomed our newest members of our community, our FUTURE GRADS! Our Year 1 Kindergarten students who have registered for Junior Kindergarten for September 2023 attended an orientation of our school and their joy, enthusiasm and radiant energy were contagious!  We can’t wait to have them join us!  If you know of any other families in our community who have yet to register their child, please let them know what a great community H.T. is and to contact the school a.s.a.p.  Registration continues to be open throughout the summer months.
  • Can’t wait to welcome our Nigerian friend “Baba” to Holy Trinity on Friday, May 19th. Babarinde will be bring close to 100 drums to our school and will teach our students how to build community, share in the culture of Africa and retell the story of Africa’s 1st black patron Saint Josephine Bakhita.  It’s gonna be a blast!

Finally, what else can we say about Mothers with it being Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 14th.  Like Mary, Mother of Jesus, we honour and celebrate any of our Hurricane mothers, grandmothers, surrogate mothers, god mothers or anyone who has cared for a child like your own – you are truly special.  God gave your immense strengths, patience, wisdom and compassion!  Life itself could not function without you.  From everyone at Hurricane Country, T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U!  We are grateful for the special and countless ways you touch our lives in amazing ways!

“Mary is the mother, and a mother worries above all about the health of her children, she knows how to care for them always with great and tender love. Our Lady guards our health. What does this mean: Our Lady guards our health? I think above all of three things: she helps us grow, to confront life, to be free.”
Pope Francis, Address, 4th May 2013

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and remember, take care of yourselves and each other!
