Hurricane 'WEEKLY' Newsletter for March 13th - 24th, 2023

Please find attached, our Hurricane ‘WEEKLY’ Newsletter for March 13th - 24th for lots of dates and events following our return to school from March Break.

Our next Spirit/Awareness Day is Tuesday, March 21st with ROCK YOUR SOCKS for WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!  The Canadian Down Syndrome Society has put together a great resource for World Down Syndrome Day. It includes a few activities that can be adapted to a variety of ages, such as a slideshow presentation, videos, a friendship writing activity, and a newspaper writing activity. This resource can be found here: https://cdss.ca/world-down-syndrome-day/  In addition, here is a great video explaining Down syndrome produced by the Down Syndrome Research Foundation:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCCUIsct8Bw&t=179s  Also, the video Just Like You is another great video about Down syndrome, although slightly longer. It is found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpJN49B1FCM We will be inviting our Hurricane staff to watch these videos and encouraging them to take pictures of their classes rocking their colourful socks on and tagging WWDSS on social media for a chance to win a pizza party! Last but certainly not least, members of Waterloo Wellington Down Syndrome Society co-wrote a song with 3x Juno Award-nominated songwriter and music producer Alysha Brilla for World Down Syndrome Day in 2021, celebrating inclusivity. You can find the music video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXgqzUW6F_g. Holy Trinity students and siblings Etta & Jamie appear in this video as well as some other Guelphites who staff may have taught/worked with in the past. GoHURRICANESgo!

Have a wonderful March Break everyone.  We pray for your safety and wellness and that you enjoy this much needed time to restore, relax and rejuvenate with your loved ones.  See everyone back on Monday, March 20th and don't forget that we are still in the season of Lent - so keep working on those Lenten promises and try a little bit each day, to do something that brings you closer to God.

Take care of yourselves and each other Hurricanes
