Hurricane 'WEEKLY' Newsletter for October 9th - 13th, 2023

Happy Friday you A-W-E-S-O-M-E Hurricanes!

We made it through the 1st week of October, although it really felt like summer again with that very warm weather we received!  As we enter Thanksgiving weekend and Halloween, please find attached  our Hurricane ‘WEEKLY’ Newsletter for October 9th – 13th, 2023 for the many up and coming events!

Just 2 quick messages this edition about G-R-A-T-I-T-U-D-E and A-T-T-E-N-D-A-N-C-E!

First, we are grateful for all of you and our Holy Trinity Catholic School Community.  When new members join our school community, they often share what a positive and welcoming place H.T. really is.  That’s comes from our collective generosity of spirit, patience and collaboration.  In this month of Thanksgiving, we invite everyone to continue to “see the good in all things and in all people!”  Always try and flip a negative into a positive, gratitude always begins with an ATTITUDE that we all make mistakes, we all fall down, we all need forgiveness, we all received kindness deserved and sometimes undeserved, and when we are kind to others, WE BECOME CHRIST FOR OTHERS!

Secondly, thank you to everyone for continuing to use our School Messenger APP to report your child’s lateness or absence.  This really helps our office team comply with our Safe Schools Arrival Policy and practice, which ensures we know that every child is safe, supervised and accounted for.  On that note, we also want to remind our families how importance ATTENDANCE is, in school and in life.  Because it’s been said that 80-90% of success is showing up, we have adopted 3 simple INGREDIENTS FOR STUDENT SUCCESS.  #1 Show up…#2 Do your work…#3 Be respectful.  No one in the history of life, has following this recipe proved to fail anyone.

When young people learn these habits in any area of their lives, such as with chores or athletics, their succeed-is-guaranteed!  However, the first ingredient of “Showing Up” is most important and the foundation of the two others!  And...when kids struggle with learning skills or confidence in school, missing or repeated absences can certainly cause extra stress and challenges.  And so it goes without saying, “Attendance Matters!”  It’s like a VISA bill.  It’s not a singular expense that usually creates the debt, it’s often the many, many small ones that have a devastating cumulative effect over time.

In fact, the Ministry of Education considers anything less than a 90% attendance rate as “Considerable Absence from School” and can even co-relate to a child’s lowest chance of success.  Think of it as building a sandcastle or house.  Every block or layer provides an important foundation for the next, and if blocks are missing or weak, children don’t have their best chance at learning or progressing.  Thus, we really need your help everyone, instilling this important habit into our young peoples’ lives.

Last but certainly not least, we wish our entire staff, student body and school community of family and friends a very Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!  Take time to slow down, get some fresh air and count the blessings we sometimes forget to acknowledge in our lives.  Thank you once again, for being a tremendously fabulous school community, WE APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU!

Take care of yourselves and each other HURRICANES!
