Hurricane "WEEKLY" Newsletter - October 2nd - 6th, 2023

Hello you A-W-E-S-O-M-E Hurricanes!

Hope everyone is having a terrific weekend and enjoying this beautiful sunshine!

Please find attached, our Hurricane ‘WEEKLY’ Newsletter for October 2nd – 6th, 2023.  Please note the dates and events, there are many!  Hope this helps everyone stay organized and on top of things!  Of importance, is our Professor Jamz Ultra-Neuron Dance-a-thon taking place on Monday, October 30th.  This is our first major school fundraiser, and we need each student to set a target of fundraising raising $25-$50 from family and friends (no strangers), in order to help us with some big needs at our school including; purchasing new team uniforms, new soccer nets for our playground, playground renovations, classroom recess bins, outdoor line paintings, equipment for our MakerSPACE, and “responsive” classroom furniture (we have rolled over $15,000 from last year’s fundraising to make our classrooms even more comfortable and engaging learning spaces).  Our kick-off assembly explaining the whole process will take place October 13th.  Stay tuned for more details.

We also thank Father Valentine for celebrating our Opening School Mass this past week.  Farther blessed our students, staff and this NEW school-year.  He also reminded us to always “find ways to become closer to the house of God.”  And the closest way to bring Jesus closer to us in our lives, is to attend Mass.  We know everyone is busy on weekends, but try and get to church with your families and you’ll love the feeling you’ll get with connecting back with God.  And as Father Valentine always says…God is good, ALL THE TIME…And all the time, GOD IS GOOD!  Finally, please find an attached application for any students in Grades 3 and up, who would be interested in becoming an Alter Server at St. John Parish.  Please return completed forms to Holy Trinity (Front Office) asap.

We encourage everyone to continue visiting our Twitter and Facebook School Pages as we post pictures and videos “daily” of events and stories happening at Hurricane Country!

There are several appreciation days approaching including Caretakers, Early Childhood Educators and Teachers!  Please help us make sure these special folks know how much they matter to the overall success of our school culture and the success of our students!  T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U to our caretakers Mrs. McLinton, Mrs. Bennet, Mrs. Matthews and  Mr. Herman who keep our school looking brand new!  Also our E.C.E.’s Miss. Schwende and Mrs. Connor for always taking care of our littlest learners in Kindergarten.  And last but certainly not least, our superstar Hurricane teachers who GO BIG everyday and every year for our young people!

Finally, the City of Guelph is asking that we share the following “back-to-school” safety reminders for all families in our community;

Cycling to school:

If you’re on the road cycling to school, you are to obey the rules of the road for vehicle traffic. Do not turn and ride through a pedestrian crossing while on the road with traffic, other vehicles may not anticipate this move and you put yourself in a dangerous situation.

If you’re cycling on the sidewalk and approach a pedestrian crossing without a cyclist crossing, all cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycle through the pedestrian crossing.

Pedestrian signal (walk/flashing don’t walk) operation

All traffic signals have pedestrian signals (Walk/Flashing Don’t Walk) to inform pedestrians when they are legally permitted to cross. Traffic signals are designed for pedestrian and vehicle movements.  It is important that pedestrians and vehicles obey their individual rules of the road.

Pedestrian rules or instructions are listed on the pedestrian button at each traffic signal. Below is a summary.

Walk – proceed to cross – legally permitted to cross.

Flashing hand /count down – do not enter the crossing, wait for the next signal. Not legally permitted to start crossing.

Solid hand – do not enter the crossing.

NOTE: If your traffic signal crossing has an adult guard, they are to stay in the crossing until all pedestrians reach the end of the crossing safely.  If you start walking out during the flashing hand or the count down, this does not allow enough time for your adult guard to exit safely before the traffic signal changes.  Let’s keep our community safe on our way to and from school!

Thanks Hurricanes, now go back to enjoying this beautiful September weather!  And as we approach Thanksgiving, let us remind ourselves that GRATITUDE always starts with that important ATTITUDE – and that attitude is this;

#1 See God in all things…

#2 Love God in all things…

#3 See and love God in all things and all people!

Take care of yourselves and each other H-u-r-r-i-c-a-n-e-s!
